2021 Fire Season Begins

Once again effective at noon on April 15th and until midnight October 31st, Category 1, 2, and 3 open fires are again permitted throughout the Coastal Fire Centre. However, until October 31st you are required to register ALL fires category 1, 2, & 3, within the Extension Fire and Nanaimo River Protection Districts, excluding CAMPFIRES and screened burning barrels.
All category 3 permits must also have a burning reference number issued by the Ministry Of Forests.

As a reminder you must follow the BC Ventilation index, to make sure you CAN burn on the day in question, venting must be GOOD on your day of burn. Do not begin burning when the index reads FAIR or POOR:

Category 1 – Fire piles no bigger than 1M(3FT) in height x 1M(3FT) in width

Category 2 – Fire piles no bigger than 2M(6FT) in height x 3M(10FT) in width

Campfires and Burning Barrels with Screen – DOES NOT REQUIRE REGISTRATION
